B.C INTRODUCES A PILOT PROGRAM FOR ENTREPRENEUR IMMIGRANTS

The government of British Columbia has announced a new Regional Pilot program for immigrant entrepreneurs who would like to be active in smaller communities around the province.

This two-year program will commence its operation in early 2019 and it is intended to distribute the economic benefits of immigration across the province.

In order to start the process, all the candidates must complete an exploratory visit to the community where they want to establish their business and must be in receipt of a community referral before registering for this program.

Successful applicants will receive a temporary work permit and the BC PNP will provide the applicants with a nomination for permanent residence once it is established that the business is legitimate and meets the requirements outlined in the Performance Agreement.

The following eligibility criteria should be met if the applicant wishes to proceed with this program;

  • Conduct an exploratory community visit;
  • Have a minimum of $100,000 in eligible business investments;
  • Have a minimum personal net worth of $300,000;
  • Have 3+ years of experience as an active business owner-manager or 4+ years as a senior manager within the last 5 years;
  • Take on a minimum of 51 per cent owner ownership;
  • Create a minimum of one new job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
